The Adventure Continues
This Sunday I will be boarding a flight from Melbourne bound for Scotland for what promises to be another important chapter in My St Kilda Tweed Project.
Over the next four weeks I will be travelling across Scotland putting in place many of the pieces needed to make my planned four-week residency on St Kilda in 2027 a reality.
There will be meetings to attend, arrangements to make, wool and weaving matters to discuss, and perhaps most exciting of all, the opportunity to spend time immersed in the landscapes, history and culture that gave birth to the remarkable tweed I am hoping to recreate.
One of the highlights of the trip will be visiting the West Highland Museum in Fort William to examine, in person, one of the last surviving pieces of original St Kilda tweed, woven on the islands around 1930 and preserved for future generations.
This journey feels like another step closer to returning St Kilda tweed to the place where it was last woven almost a century ago.
As always, I look forward to sharing the adventure with you all over the coming weeks and bringing you updates from Scotland as the project continues to unfold.
Scotland, here I come.
